Stephanie Jones has been playing and performing music for many years. She started learning the piano when she was 5 along with the violin at 7 years. When she was 11 years old, she commenced learning classical guitar with Murray Bishop. Her love of classical guitar has been supported and encouraged over the last 4 years by her current teacher Alan Banks. Continuing her love of learning music Stephanie also started lessons on the saxophone and has been doing so with Roger Garood for the past four years. She also complements this with jazz flute lessons.
Now at 16 years, she has won over 40 awards at WA Eisteddfods and been part of numerous concerts including gala and winners performances, recitals and community events. She has also participated and won at national and international competitions including the Sydney Eisteddfod McDonalds Performing Arts Festival, and the Asian International Guitar Festival in Bangkok. As part of the Methodist Ladies College Jazz Band, playing at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in July 2008 was an amazing experience.
Stephanie is part of several ensembles including the Grey-Jones Duo and duets with flute. In 2008, the guitar duo performed on RTR FM radio Programme ‘Plucked Strings.' In 2009 Stephanie completed her diploma exam for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music and also her AMEB AMusA Exam. Stephanie has also recently completed her first classical guitar CD, Bach the Fly and the Microphone, which is now available to purchase. In her spare time Stephanie plays the alto and soprano sax and flute and is a member of the WAYJO Big Band. She was also a semifinalist/top 10 in Australia in the Future Leaders Jazz Award competition with her alto sax. Early in 2010 she auditioned for and was selected as one of the top 16 to compete in the very prestigious Adelaide International Guitar Festival Classical Guitar Competition. This is to be held in Adelaide in November. Being winner of the Royal Schools Anniversary Scholarship 2010 has made it possible for Stephanie to attend the Festival in Adelaide to compete and to attend the many Concerts, Workshops, Masterclasses, Talks and Seminars that have been organised. It will be a wonderful experience to meet World renowned Masters up close and personal. Stephanie has just returned from China where she toured with a High School Jazz Band. She was one of 9 High School students that were selected as part of a cultural exchange group to represent W.A. at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. It was an amazing experience to meet and perform for many Chinese people. Stephanie Jones regularly jams and busks and performs at various functions, including a charity recital concert at Swallows Winery. Her Youtube Website for Guitar and Saxophone is www.youtube.com/stephaniejonesguitar. Stephanie hopes to have a career in music performance and to be able share her love of music with others. |
